<\/a>Al menos 83 personas fueron detenidas durante las manifestaciones realizadas en varios barrios de Nueva York para rechazar la decisi\u00f3n de un jurado de no procesar a un polic\u00eda blanco por la muerte de Eric Garner.
Unas cinco mil personas salieron a protestar en Times Square, Columbus Circle, Harlem e incluso Staten Island, el barrio donde muri\u00f3 Garner, de 43 a\u00f1os, durante un violento operativo policial el 17 de julio.<\/span>
<\/a>En la ma\u00f1ana del jueves, la Polic\u00eda de Nueva York inform\u00f3 que los detenidos fueron 83, aunque no se se\u00f1alaron incidentes mayores.
Cerca al Rockefeller Center, donde se realizaba el encendido tradicional del \u00e1rbol de Navidad, cientos de personas se congregaron para manifestarse mezcl\u00e1ndose con los turistas. En Washington se realizaron peque\u00f1as manifestaciones sin que se reportaran incidentes.<\/span><\/p>\n

Eric Garner, padre de tres hijos, sospechoso de vender cigarrillos ilegalmente, fue sometido por la fuerza tras intentar resistirse al arresto por varios oficiales blancos, uno de los cuales, identificado como Daniel Pantaleo, lo tom\u00f3 por el cuello, una pr\u00e1ctica prohibida en Nueva York. <\/span><\/div>\n
La actuaci\u00f3n de Pantaleo fue captada por la c\u00e1mara de un aficionado. En el video, Garner se queja en varias ocasiones de no poder respirar. Obeso y asm\u00e1tico, perdi\u00f3 luego el conocimiento y fue declarado muerto en el hospital.  Su deceso fue calificado como homicidio por la oficina forense.<\/span><\/div>\n
